To be fair, I can imagine Penny still thinking the game will somehow come out. S&S taking away the rights (possibly meaning they can't sell games either?)Īnd all of that would just mean instant death to HI. Board members outrage 'what have you been doing this whole time?'ģ. Also, it keeps Penny hired as a Ceo while doing next to nothing, why would she give it up?Įnd of the day, I imagine they can't admit a new game is not coming becauseĢ. I don't see another way they could've keep afloat for so long. Plus, I'm guessing the company's everyday operations and Penny's wages are sustained by the investors somehow. A while back someone 'discovered' HI might still have plenty of the physical games that they might want to get rid of.Īnd let me remind you, they started promoting games produced elsewhere to make some extra cash too. There is still plenty money to be made, believe me. Having a sale might give them an extra push.

Others might want to buy the physical copies that are missing from their collections. Yes, many have the whole collection but ! Cd drives are becoming more rare and some people might find that they need to redownload the games to play on newer laptops. I supported a Kickstarter for an indie mystery/adventure game four years ago, and now it's two years overdue, but the beta just released, so sometimes those long-awaited releases actually DO come out, even if in the interim the developers sorta went radio silent about the eventual release date and how much progress they made. But considering that they've already invested in this game and their official line is still "yes, this game is going to be released in Spring 2019," I think the game will eventually see the light of day. And I think it will probably be the last Nancy Drew game. And it might not be like the other games. So I do think that MID will eventually be released. And if their plan was just to stop producing new titles and instead focus on attracting new players to the old ones, why not just be upfront about that? So I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it's just poor planning and communication, not purposeful dishonesty. I mean, if they're not releasing new games, what are Nancy Drew fans spending money on? At this point, most of the people interested in Nancy Drew games probably already own all the titles, and I doubt merchandise does *that* well for them. I'm not giving them a pass or anything, but when people say "They're lying to us to squeeze money from us," I don't quite follow the logic of how HER is actually profiting in that scenario. I don't think HER is purposely lying to us. I would guess the reason for the radio silence right now is that HER has outsourced the actual game development, and that company hasn't been great about giving updates or sticking to a schedule. It's my understanding that a lot (maybe all?) of MID has already been written.
